Step1: choose the hierarchy tree

There are two kinds of hierarchy tree of instrument, one is categorized by play method, another is categorized by Hombostel sachs strategy. Choose one of them, and click the black arrow to expand the tree, the deeper level of categories will be shown.

Step2: select instruments

Click the checkbox beside the instrument name to choose the instrument for query

Step3: select duration for each instrument

When each instrument is chosen, one dropdown list together with the instrument name will be added to page, for each instrument, there are 3 different duration to be define: “some”;”quite a few”;”a lot”, which indicate the length of the instrument playing in the music audio.

Step 4: search the database

After select duration for each instrument, click search button, then the query is submitted to system and results are displayed in page: audio name, instrument and link for the audio file which could be listened by clicking the sound. Generalization strategy is applied to query when query failed.
