Dr. Zbigniew W. Ras Dr. Ras is a professor of Computer Science and KDD Laboratory Director in the College of IT at UNC-Charlotte. He got his PhD degree from the University of Warsaw and his DSc degree (Habilitation) from the Polish Academy of Sciences. His research areas include knowledge discovery, data mining, intelligent agents, multimedia databases, ontologies, and intelligent query answering systems. He is the E-in-C of the International Journal of Intelligent Information Systems (Springer) and the Deputy E-in-C of Fundamenta Informaticae Journal (IOS Press). |
Dr. Ras has published more than 150 papers in journals, edited books, and conference proceedings. Also he edited more than 30 books in intelligent systems area and served as a PC member on more than 100 international conferences, including PKDD, ICDM, DaWak, IAT, ISMIS, FLAIRS, CoopIS, FQAS, ISWC, AIMSA, and AISC. |

Dr. Krzysztof Marasek Dr. Marasek is a professor and head of the Multimedia Department at the Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology. Dr. Marasek obtained his PhD degree from the Polish Academy of Sciences and his DSc degree (habilitation) from the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Until 2002 he was a Senior Scientist at the Sony Stuttgart Technology Center, where he was responsible for speech data collection for European languages and actively participated in EC Project Speecon (IST-1999-2003).

Dr. Marasek is an author or co-author of 3 books, more than 50 publications and 18 European patents. His work focuses on speech processing, voice quality measurement, speech recognition and multimedia content analysis. |

Rory A. Lewis Rory received his Bachelor of Science in Computer and Electrical Engineering at Syracuse University in 1993. Rory then completed his Jurist Doctor in Law at Syracuse University College of Law with and LT&M specializing in High Tech Patent Law and eCommerce. Rory worked at Fullbright and Jaworski, in Austin Texas, and at Skjervan Morril in San Francisco where he helped on the AMD vs. Intel Lawsuit. Here Rory developed algorithms to prove that portions of electrical circuitry on Intel's processors were stolen from AMD and then disguised onto Intel processors. AMD won. |
Rory returned to school to study KDD under the direction of Dr. Ras for his PhD in Computer Science. Rory passed his Qualification Exam in December 2005 and now works on this project. Rory teaches IT classes for MBA students at DeVry University. Rory has two teenage daughters and has a quite successful band. |

Dr. Alicja Wieczorkowska Dr. Wieczorkowska is an Assistant Professor at the Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology. She got her PhD degree in Sound Engineering from the Technical University of Gdansk. Also, Dr. Wieczorkowska graduated from the F. Chopin State School of Music mastering in bassoon and piano. |

Cynthia Xin Zhang Cynthia worked as an Assistant Engineer in Wuhan Architect Design Institute, in Wuhan, China, where she worked with visualization team building virtual 3D models. Cynthia received a M.S. degree in Computer Science in May, 2003 and is now in the PhD program working under the direction of Dr. Zbigniew W. Ras in Music Information Retrieval for Timbre Recognition. Cynthia’s research interest also include statistical analysis and data visualization. Cynthia also participates in “A Path Engine for Mobile Situational Visualization” on top of the Virtual Geographic Information System a joint research project with Syracuse University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. |

Elzbieta KolczynskaElzbieta is a lecturer at the Agricultural University in Lublin. She received her M.S. degree in Computer Science from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin in 2006. Now she is in the PhD program at the Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology in Warsaw working under the direction of Dr. Zbigniew W. Ras in Music Information Retrieval. |

Mike Jiang Mike Jiang got his Master and Bachelor degree in Computer Science from Shanghai Jiaotong Unversity, which is ranked in top 5 university in China. He worked as a senior Data anaysis engineer in Indurstial Bank of China and was an expert in ETL and OLAP system involved with huge volumn of Credit Card transaction data of the bank.He also used to work as a software engineer in R&D department of Siemens in China.Now he is a PhD student in KDD lab of computer science department in UNCC and doing reasearch work in the area of data mining and music information retrieval under the direction of Dr. Zbigniew W. Ras.

Amanda Cohen Amanda Cohen graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music where she specialized in French Horn performance. While in Chapel Hill she worked as a student consultant in the IT Response Center and took several courses in programming and web design. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Information Technology under the direction of Dr. Zbigniew Ras and working as a research assistant on the music information retrieval project. |
